On May 12, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order aiming to drastically reduce U.S. prescription drug prices by aligning them with the lowest prices paid in other developed nations—a policy known as the “Most Favored Nation” (MFN) approach. The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed the BIOSECURE Act, prohibiting U.S. biopharma companies from working with Chinese contractors due to national security concerns, including data leaks and intellectual property theft. The Act is expected to pass the Senate.

The BIOSECURE Act of the United States could affect more than 120 US biopharmaceutical drugs partnered with Chinese companies ‘of concern’, as named in the bill. Of these, approximately half are in clinical trials (phases I to III) and a third are in early preclinical and discovery stages, according to GlobalData, the analytics company.
