PD affects an estimated six to 11 million people worldwide

Edinburgh-based Lario Therapeutics has received $2.4 million (approximately €2m) in grant funding from The Michael J. Fox Foundation and Wellcome to expand its drug discovery platform targeting voltage-gated neuronal calcium channels implicated in several central nervous system disorders. The approach is rooted in genetics that the company believes could open new fronts in Parkinson’s disease (PD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

MitoRx Therapeutics Ltd has raised £5.5m in a seed financing to advance Myo‑004, a small molecule mitochondrial-targeted obesity therapy enabling fat loss while preserving lean muscle mass.

Leuven-based Augustine Therapeutics NV will use the proceeds from a €77.7m in Series A financing led by Novo Holdings and Jeito Capital to advance its preclinical HDAC6 inhibitor AGT-100216 for the treatment of Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease to Phase I testing.

Renewed focus on cancer: COVID-19 vaccine company BioNTech SE (Nasdaq: BNTX) and Ryvu Therapeutics S.A., located in Krakow (Warsaw Stock Exchange: RVU), a Polish clinical-stage cancer therapeutics development company, announced that the companies have entered into a research collaboration for several multi-target immunotherapy programmes, as well as an exclusive licensing agreement for Ryvu’s STING agonist portfolio as stand-alone small molecules.
