Swedish biotech company Melt&Marble AB has raised €7.3m in Series A funding to scale production of designer fats for the personal care and food markets. Using precision fermentation, the company aims at designing sustainable, high-performance alternatives to conventional oils and fats, offering enhanced functionality, taste, and potential health benefits.

The investment round was led by Industrifonden, with participation from the European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund, Beiersdorf, Valio, Chalmers Ventures, and Catalyze Capital. Additional EU grants totaling €2.76m brought the company’s funding to €10m over the past year, supporting Melt&Marble’s transition from R&D to commercialisation.

“Melt&Marble aims to meet growing demand for fats that combine functionality with environmental responsibility, addressing limitations of palm, coconut, and animal-based oils,” said CEO Anastasia Krivoruchko. Investors highlighted the company’s technical and commercial readiness.

Melt&Marble’s platform targets a market exceeding $100bn, spanning personal care, alternative meat and dairy, bakery, chocolate, and specialised nutrition. By engineering fats at the molecular level, the company delivers cost-competitive, locally produced ingredients while supporting sustainability goals.

Strategic partners Beiersdorf and Valio emphasised the potential of Melt&Marble’s fats for personal care and food innovation. “Melt&Marble is developing new, interesting products for the store shelf,” confirmed Susanna Kallio, Vice President at Valio.

With commercial launch planned for 2026, Melt&Marble will initially focus on personal care products in Europe and the US. Collaborations with industry partners are underway to co-develop products and scale production efficiently through existing manufacturing partners.

“The future belongs to ingredients that deliver functionality, impact, and cost,” said Thomas Cresswell, CBO of Melt&Marble. The funding secures the company’s next growth phase, bringing precision-designed fats and lipids closer to widespread adoption and a more sustainable future for food and beauty.
