Countdown to SLAS Europe: LifeTaq Analytics GmbH

LifeTaq-Analytics GmbH, founded in 2017 in Klosterneuburg, Austria, by Manfred Taschner, specializes in developing automated systems for 3D tissue model cultivation. The company’s flagship product, the Oli-MAT cell cultivation unit, facilitates high-throughput production and scale-up of standardized 3D cultured tissue models that simulate key aspects of human physiology, especially the lung, as well as kidney, gastrointestinal tract, and skin systems. The platform aims to address the translational gap between animal models and human clinical outcomes by providing more physiologically relevant preclinical data, thereby reducing animal tests, development costs, and timelines while enhancing success rates in drug discovery.

The Oli-MAT system operates fully autonomously, performing continuous media exchange and monitoring scaffold-based 3D mass cell culture growth under controlled conditions. This automated functionality is designed to address the high failure rate-estimated between 85–95%, in the preclinical development phase of (bio)pharmaceutical candidates.

Hence, the Oli-MAT system as a platform technology is suitable for high-throughput 3D model cultivation under a controlled oxygen environment. Its compatibility with automation makes it a promising tool for drug screening and testing physiologically relevant in vitro tissue models.
