Clinical Development Expert has started
London-based EpilepsyGTx has appointed Dr Teresa Nunes as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to support the continued development of the company’s gene therapy program, including its progression toward clinical development.
The UK biotechnology company announced the appointment of Dr. Teresa Nunes as Chief Medical Officer in July. The experienced clinical development professional will be responsible for supporting the advancement of the company’s lead gene therapy program, EPY201, through regulatory processes and into early clinical studies in humans. EPY201 is being developed for the treatment of focal refractory epilepsy.
Before joining EpilepsyGTx, Nunes was responsible for medical teams and pharmacovigilance activities at the global contract research organization Allucent. Previously, she held senior medical roles at clinical research consultancy Premier Research International and at Bial, where she led the development of eslicarbazepine acetate (brand name: Zebinix), an anti-epileptic medication, from early clinical development through regulatory approval.
During her career, Nunes has contributed to more than 100 Phase I–IV clinical trials. She has worked with multidisciplinary teams across clinical development, medical strategy, pharmacovigilance, and project management functions at international organizations, including Vertex Pharmaceuticals and BlueClinical.
Her experience also includes the development of AAV-based gene therapies, with expertise in areas such as clinical trial protocol development, safety monitoring, and the management of potential development challenges, including immunosuppression and hepatotoxicity.
