2024 BioFIT, MedFIT and MEDigIT editions: Fostering innovation and excellence in the healthcare sector

This year, Lille hosted the 2024 editions of BioFIT, MedFIT, and MEDigIT, three internationally recognised events dedicated to innovation in Life Sciences, MedTech and Digital Health. These gatherings serve as catalysts for collaboration and progress, each focusing on a specific aspect of the healthcare innovation landscape.

BioFIT, Europe’s leading partnering event for early-stage innovation in the Life Sciences, is a key platform for academia-industry collaborations, technology transfer and seed investments. By bringing together academic researchers, TTOs, start-ups and big pharma players, BioFIT fosters ground-breaking partnerships that drive medical and biotechnological progress.

MedFIT, meanwhile, stands as a unique event in MedTech innovation. It focuses on accelerating collaborations between industry leaders, start-ups and investors in the MedTech and Diagnostic sectors. From cutting-edge medical devices to revolutionary diagnostic tools, MedFIT is a nexus for MedTech innovation and growth.

Finally, MEDigIT is an emerging hub for Digital Health innovation. It highlights the transformative power of digital technologies in healthcare and provides a stage for innovators, entrepreneurs and healthcare professionals to exchange ideas and explore the future of healthtech.

Together, these events brought an exceptional 1,500 attendees from 35 countries to Lille, supported by more than 180 exhibitors and generating more than 4,800 formal business meetings. In addition to the in-person sessions, virtual meetings were held on December 11th and 12th to extend the range of opportunities.

Recognising the pioneers of tomorrow
The pitch sessions were at the heart of the events, with 75 ground-breaking projects competing for recognition. These sessions highlighted the creativity and impact of innovative companies across all sectors.

Among the winners was Biel Glasses, who triumphed at the MEDigIT Start-up Slams with their revolutionary Biel Smartgaze, designed to give people with low vision autonomy by adapting the world to their vision. Jaume Puig Adamuz from Biel Glasses shared his excitement: “Winning the Start-up Slams was a true honour for our team, validating our mission to enhance the quality of life for people with low vision. MedFIT 2024 has been an incredibly enriching experience, and we can’t wait to return next year to continue growing and contributing to this vibrant ecosystem.”

In the MEDigIT Collaborative and Licensing Opportunity Presentations, Careful Systems Limited was recognised for its digital health solution, CAREFUL, which improves clinical coordination. DJ Hamblin-Brown from Careful highlighted the value of attending: “MedFIT2024 allowed us to discuss the way CAREFUL can improve productivity in healthcare. The event also allowed us to connect with others and explore partnership opportunities that we hope will bring CAREFUL to healthcare systems in Europe. Thank you to MedFIT for this opportunity! We look forward to the collaborations and partnerships that will come from our win.”

At MedFIT, Hemerion Therapeutics caught the eye at the Start-up Slams with its transformative approach to cancer treatment, while SATT Aquitaine was recognised at the Collaborative and Licensing Opportunity Presentations for its pioneering work in medtech partnerships. Maximilien Vermandel from Hemerion Therapeutics reflected: “Taking part in MedFIT and BioFIT was an enriching and stimulating experience, both in terms of presenting our project and exchanging ideas with key players in the ecosystem. Winning this award is recognition of our team’s work and our commitment to transforming the way cancer patients are cared for. This award strengthens our determination to take our mission even further.”

BioFIT also celebrated innovation with awards to Benno Therapeutics for animal health, Brenus Pharma for collaborative opportunities and V4Cure for advances in healthcare technologies.

Showcasing Lille as a Global Innovation Hub
Hosting BioFIT, MedFIT and MEDigIT in Lille not only underscored the importance of these events, but also highlighted the attractiveness of the region as a centre of excellence in healthtech. The Hauts-de-France region, with its dynamic ecosystem, played a key role in facilitating meaningful exchanges and groundbreaking partnerships that will shape the future of healthcare innovation.

With preparations already underway for the 2025 editions, these events continue to be at the forefront of innovation, driving progress and connecting visionaries around the world.
