The 13th CO₂-based Fuels and Chemicals Conference, taking place on April 29-30, 2025, in Cologne, Germany, and online, is the definitive event for Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU). Unlike carbon storage initiatives, this conference focuses entirely on utilizing CO₂ as a valuable resource to create chemicals, fuels, polymers, and materials. With global production capacities for CO₂-based products now exceeding 1.5 million tons annually, this year’s event highlights the growing importance of CCU technologies in building a sustainable and circular carbon economy. The event emphasizes key advancements in CCU technologies, exploring persistent biogenic CO₂ sources, efficient carbon capture technologies, and the critical role of renewable hydrogen. These elements are essential for ensuring a stable CO2 supply for CCU processes and shape new opportunities for carbon-intense industries to reduce fossil carbon reliance while contributing to EU climate goals.
The program includes discussions on policy frameworks and strategies necessary to support CCU’s growth and requirements for the certification of CCU-based products and chemicals, taking critical steps to ensure transparency, traceability, and market acceptance. Sessions will explore CCU’s alignment with international climate goals and European policies, such as the EU’s ReFuel Aviation proposal for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), including synthetic fuels derived from CO₂. A major highlight of the conference is the “Best CO₂ Utilisation 2025” innovation award. Six nominees will present groundbreaking technologies showcasing the effective use of CO₂ as a feedstock.
By fostering collaboration among industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers, the CO2-based Fuels and Chemicals Conference provides a unique platform to exchange knowledge, exhibit, showcase innovations, and drive investments in this rapidly growing field.
