Long-term stabilization of assay components
Many users in research labs like to store their assay components such as assay antibodies, conjugates, antigens, calibrators or coated ELISA plates for a while without losing functionality.
Some components like conjugates or plates have to be prepared before doing the immunoassay measurements. In many labs this preparation – such as dilution from stock or coating of the plate – is done every day freshly. The reason is, that such components degrade, if they are stored after preparation and are not prepared freshly. But modern commercial ELISA kits can be stored for long-term without losing functionality. This is possible because industrial stabilizers are used to protect the components in the kit. Such stabilizers for protection are now available for every laboratory, too. It is easier and more timesaving to prepare the demand of half a year or one year and to consume this stock successively. By using the same batch of components like plates and conjugates in many experiments, the results become more comparable due to measurements with these very uniform and consistent assay components.
One solution to stabilize coated ELISA plates is Liquid Plate Sealer®. After immobilization of the antibodies or antigens and blocking, Liquid Plate Sealer® seals the plates with a uniform stabilizing layer demonstrating good solubility and without affecting the assay afterwards. After removing the solution and drying, the plates can be stored for long-term.
Antibodies can be stored at 2-8°C in solution in Antibody Stabilizer in end-user concentrations. Antibodies do not have to be aliquoted anymore. So freezing and thawing cycles which can destroy antibodies are no longer needed.
HRP-labeled antibodies can be stored in HRP-Protector in end-user concentrations at 2-8°C.
HRP-Protector conserves the functionality of the antibody and additionally the activity of the peroxidase.
By using stabilizers, biological components can be stored for long-term without losing functionality.
Storage time depends on the antibody and must be tested by the user. Typical storage times range from 1 to 3 years and longer.
