BioEcho – Focus on extremely fast DNA/RNA tests

BioEcho develops single-spin and 96/384-well kits based on the proprietary single-step EchoLUTION nucleic acid extraction process. Highly superior to the commonly used Silica-based solutions (bind-wash-elute), the whole procedure is extremely fast. Washing steps are not required and the isolated inhibitor-free RNA/DNA is detected with increased sensitivity. Due to the expertise of its founders and employees, BioEcho also uses their know-how to support companies with limited research capacities or specialized scientific knowledge. Especially in times like these, BioEcho helps to accelerate accurate tests on certain RNA/DNA viruses or pathogens.

The need for fast and accurate diagnosis and the increasing demand for hygienic standards is rapidly changing the world´s behavior of dealing with the challenges that come along with diseases or pandemic outbreaks. The improvement of workflow processes can be supported by accelerated viral tests and their increased diagnostic accuracy or the use of so called PoC (point-of-care) devices, portable tools for rapid on-site diagnosis. At present, BioEcho supports the validation of new viral DNA/RNA extraction kits from throat swabs and develops kits from other starting materials such as stool, blood or plant tissues. Furthermore they work for clients on novel approaches in genomic research and molecular diagnostics, or on the validation of high-throughput solutions in the area of "molecular breeding".

Outsourcing of R&D – fast and successful results

Outsourcing of concept, planning and execution of new product and process developments in nucleic acid purification can be highly beneficial to companies. Particularly the availability of specialized scientific expertise reduces the need to hire and train specialized staff, shortens development times and reduces operating expenses and risk. BioEcho is actually working at diagnostic topics such as pathogen and SARS-CoV-2 detection. The companies and diagnostic labs involved here save high costs while speeding up their product or process development.

Flexible and easy workflow integration

In-house BioEcho developments are based on their proprietary single-step EchoLUTION technology which does not need any washing step. It allows a 5- to 10-fold higher sample throughput than commonly used bind-wash-elute methods. The inhibitor-free DNA enables lowered time-to-result in enzyme-dependent genomic analyses such as PCR or NGS utilizing only standard lab equipment. Flexible as it is, it can be used manually or simply incorporated in existing automated workflows. Time-consuming and cost-intensive automation – in most cases used only on an irregular basis – is not required to be purchased specifically.

Single-step nucleic acid extraction in high throughput

The EchoLUTION process starts with a quick and gentle lysis of blood, cells or tissue, which is often complete after just 10 minutes or already happens during sampling. Subsequently the lysate is purified in only one centrifugation step by reversed chromatography and the highly pure viral RNA & DNA is extracted (see fig). Especially if the throughput is a crucial success-factor, this single-step extraction principle is highly advantageous over traditional methods. The whole simple-to-validate process is up to 10 times faster than commonly used Silica (bind – wash – elute) procedures and an analysis of several thousand samples per day can be easily achieved.

Reliable and reproducible

The simplicity, speed and efficiency of the EchoLUTION RNA/DNA extraction workflow represent a clear improvement compared to the current state of the art. The reliability and accuracy of results in PCR or qPCR – with no reaction drop-outs – saves time and money on potential re-work on individual reactions. These observations are confirmed by cooperating diagnostic laboratories with promising results for their validation of ultra-fast detection of SARS-CoV-2.

Your project – your success

The advantages of the BioEcho technology such as unmatched speed und easy integration into existing lab procedures combined with high sample throughput and purity are as convincing as our research and business professionality. In the past, cooperation in high-throughput DNA-isolation or DNA/RNA isolation from different starting materials such as blood, swabs, cells or plants were often beneficial to our clients: their process or product development have been successfully accelerated.
