The ultra-fast track to viral RNA and genomic DNA

The need for fast and accurate diagnosis and the increasing demand for hygienic standards is rapidly changing the world´s behavior of how to deal with the challenges that come along with diseases or pandemic outbreaks. The improvement of workflow processes can be supported by accelerated viral tests and their increased diagnostic accuracy or the use of so called PoC (point-of-care) devices, portable tools for rapid on-site diagnosis.  At present, BioEcho focuses on the validation of its new patent-pending EchoLUTION viral DNA/RNA extraction kits from throat swabs at different professional diagnostic labs. Furthermore, they work for clients on novel approaches in genomic research and molecular diagnostics and on high-throughput solutions in the area of molecular breeding.

The fast track to successful tests and results

Outsourcing of concept, planning and execution of new product and process developments in nucleic acid purification is highly beneficial to companies. Particularly the availability of specialized scientific expertise reduces the need to hire and train specialized staff, shortens development times and reduces operating expenses and risk. BioEcho is currently working on different diagnostic topics such as SARS-CoV-2 and general pathogen detection as well as on development of point-of-care tools. The companies and diagnostic labs involved here save high costs while speeding up their product or validation processes.

Flexible and easy workflow integration

BioEcho developments are based on their patent-pending single-step EchoLUTION technology which does not need any washing step. It allows an up to 20-fold higher sample throughput than commonly used bind-wash-elute methods. The inhibitor-free RNA/DNA enables lowered time-to-result in enzyme-dependent genomic analyses such as PCR or NGS, utilizing only standard lab equipment such as a plate centrifuge and multi-channel pipets. It can be flexibly used manually or simply incorporated in existing automated workflows. Purchasing time-consuming and cost-intensive automation on top is not required.

2-minute nucleic acid extraction in high throughput

The new EchoLUTION RNA process for SARS CoV-2 tests immediately disintegrates all viral particles with no extra-time needed (see fig, left) or, for genomic DNA, with a quick lysis of blood, cells or tissue, which is often complete after just 10 minutes (see fig., right). Subsequently, the lysate is purified in only one centrifugation step by reversed chromatography and the highly pure viral RNA or genomic DNA is extracted. Especially if the throughput is a crucial success factor, this single-step extraction principle is highly advantageous over traditional methods. The whole simple-to-validate process is up to 20 times faster than commonly used Silica (bind – wash – elute) procedures and an analysis of several thousand samples per day can be easily achieved.

Reliable and reproducible

The simplicity and speed of the EchoLUTION workflow represent a clear improvement compared to the current state of the art. The reliability of results in PCR or qPCR – with no reaction drop-outs – saves time and money; re-work on individual reactions is a thing of the past. Best example for that are the ongoing validations of the 2-minute RNA isolation for ultra-fast detection of SARS-CoV-2 in various diagnostic labs.
