The walk and jump of the plant spore
The plant Equisetum or Horsetail is also called a living fossil, as it is the only living genus in Equisetaceae, a family of vascular plants that reproduce by spores rather than seeds.
The tiny spherical spores released by the plant have four ribbon-like appendages which are sensitive to moisture. Wet, they are curled up tight, but when it is dry, the ribbons unfold, allowing the equisetum to sort-or-walk or even jump.
