With 24+ sessions and 100+ speakers covering six major topics, this year's 13th edition of EFIB shed light on the role bio-based innovation can play with regard to implementing a green recovery.
With the Green Deal announced by the European Commission in December 2019, Europe has reaffirmed its goal to be among the global leaders of sustainable innovation. It includes a “Farm to Fork” strategy that aims at developing an environmentally friendly food system and will proceed with a Circular Economy Action Plan, among others.
This year's digital EFIB conference take place as a five-day virtual conference from 5 to 9 October providing 24 LIVE sessions and LIVE talks from 100+ speakers. It showcases corporate strategies in the Green Economy and provide a platform to discuss how industry is contributing to sustainable, green and circular innovation in key consumer sectors, such as food, materials & packaging, and fashion.
By highlighting business strategies and alliances, large corporations as well as small and medium sized companies (SMEs), investors, start-ups, and policymakers will share insights on
- how to advance innovation within corporates, SMEs and public-private coalitions
- how to organise legal frameworks for sustainable, green and circular bio-based processes and biotech innovation
- how to scale up new means for food production, and how to best implement market access for start-ups in the fields of plant-based and cultured meat alternatives
- how to establish sustainable plastic alternatives in the materials and packaging area
- how to scale up innovation and sustainability in the textile industry
- how bioeconomy and industrial biotechnology solutions could provide a major pillar to reach the Sustainable Development Goals
- how the financing and investor market is changing towards sustainability and Green Economy

The programme will focus on different industry sectors and business areas each covered by a day full of sessions. Current developments of each of those topics will also be highlighted on specific topic pages at the EFIB event platform:
Additionally, the conference will provide access to a digital poster gallery in the Innovation Campus , and help to engage with stakeholders through the digital EFIB stakeholder guide on bio-based innovation. The guide is a new format which will provide an overview of all major EFIB stakeholders from industry, academia and finance. Around 30 start-ups will be part of this year's Digital Start-up Forum as well.
Virtual 1:1 partnering will be possible 24-hours/day throughout the whole conference week to accommodate all times zones.
