BIST: Distinguished director

Miquel A. Pericàs has taken over as general director of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST). The chemical engineer has been holding the position of director of the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia since 2000. 

Pericàs, who obtained his PhD in chemical engineering degree at the University of Barcelona in 1979, has been a Full Professor of Organic Chemistry at the university. He has authored or co-authored some 280 scientific publications, and is a co-inventor in 26 patents. He is the recipient of several awards, among them the Narcís Monturiol Medal of the Generalitat de Catalunya for Scientific and Technological Merits. He is a member of the Real Sociedad Española de Química, Societat Catalana de Química, American Chemical Society and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Pericàs succeeds Montserrat Vendrell, who is moving on to take up an entrepreneurial post in the private sector.
